Keeping It Moving: Quality Control on the Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle

On a job like the Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle, miles are being logged, work is getting done, and milestones are being hit. So how do we deliver the high-quality work that people expect from ESS?

That’s where the Quality Control team comes in. Kyle Smith, Quality Control Manager, gave us a look at what it takes to keep a project like this moving forward.

Maintaining Quality

Kyle doubles as both a Quality Manager and a Quality Control Technician. In this role, he’s not tied to one crew on the Kaysinger job — he supports the entire project. His day-to-day includes traffic control inspections, tracking quantities, managing material certifications, and filling in the gaps wherever the job needs him.

As Kyle puts it, “It’s about making sure we’re compliant and delivering the product we said we would.”

No two days look the same. Priorities shift constantly depending on what’s happening in the field.

Where We Stand

Progress on the Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle isn’t slowing down. Four of the 20 bridges — Horse Creek, Cedar Creek, Bear Creek, and Tebo Creek — are complete and back in service.

The Truman Reservoir bridge in Henry County is getting redecked, and the East Tebo Creek and Monegaw Creek bridges are getting full replacements. Kudos to the crews for pushing these forward and keeping timelines on track.

Built on Accountability

For Kyle, the standard comes down to the people around him. “I don’t want to let those guys down,” he said. “They’re the people who gave me the opportunity, and I take that seriously.”

That mindset shows up on the jobsite every day. And it’s what keeps the standard high across the board.

Keep crushing it, employee-owners!
