ESS Celebrates I-64 Widening Milestone in Improve I-70 Project

Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS), joined partners from the Improve I-70 Alliance Team, MoDOT, and local leaders to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the widened I-64 corridor, a significant milestone in the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project. While the project still has a long road ahead, we are proud of the measurable progress which Missouri is already seeing the benefits from.

The I-64 widening adds a new lane in each direction across five miles of interstate — a major improvement delivered within the first year of being awarded the contract. For drivers in mid-Missouri, the added capacity will help reduce congestion and improve daily mobility. For ESS, the milestone reflects the grit, teamwork, and focus our crews bring to every job.

Getting to this point wasn’t easy. A wet spring slowed early construction efforts and forced rescheduling. But crews were able to push hard in the fall, regain lost time, and bring this first segment to completion.

“We’re grateful to MoDOT and the Missouri Transportation Commission for selecting the Improve I-70 Alliance team for this program,” said the Project Manager, Dennis Bahls.

“Being recognized for the first completed segment of I-64 is an honor that belongs to every crew member who has worked tirelessly to get us here.”

ESS remains focused on the work still ahead. With several segments under construction, crews continue to operate daily across the corridor. Missouri’s largest transportation investment is well underway and the team is committed to carrying the same momentum, collaboration, and safety-first mindset into every phase to come, including the recently awarded contract  Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia.

As the team moves into the next phases, safety stays at the forefront. ESS and MoDOT continue to encourage drivers to slow down, stay alert, and be mindful of active work zones.

ESS is proud to play a leading role in the Improve I-70 Program and committed to delivering the quality, innovation, and performance Missourians expect.
