ESS Named ESOP Company of the Year
Emery Sapp & Sons has been named Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Company of the Year by the Heart of America Chapter of The ESOP Association. The chapter presented the award at the Spring Seminar in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, March 7.
The ESOP Company of the Year award is granted to a company showing “strong commitment to employee ownership through its involvement with The ESOP Association and its programs, its clear communication with employees, and its commitment to The ESOP Association’s vision of endorsing employee participation, wealth creation, and individual dignity and worth.”
Former ESOP Company of the Year recipients include Winter-Dent & Company, McCownGordon Construction and Burns & McDonnell. Emery Sapp & Sons also received the award in 2016.
“We’re proud to lead the culture of ownership at every level,” said Amy Allen, chief administrative officer and general counsel. “We’re also proud that 63% of employee-owners in the ‘Millionaires Club’ work in the field, and we share those stories across the company to show the power of working for an ESOP.”
Emery Sapp & Sons’ ESOP enters its 25th year. As a mature ESOP, the company continues to focus on advocacy, working with organizations nationwide to advance legislation and support elected officials working to strengthen employee ownership.
Now that the company has grown into a family of brands, new affiliates have established ESOP committees to help their employee-owners learn more about the benefits of working for an ESOP. Achen-Gardner Construction, Rummel Construction and Premier Testing Laboratories are all a part of the Emery Sapp ESOP, with a total of 2,335 ESOP participants. As the family of brands grows, assessing the plan’s sustainability and administration will continue to be top of mind, as well as reinforcing the culture and employee-ownership mindset.
