Frequently Asked Questions
Want to know more about our pavement preservation services?
Pavement preservation is a specialized area of heavy civil construction with lots of unknowns outside the crews who perform the work. To help explain what exactly we do, here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
-
Where does ESS currently perform pavement preservation services?
ESS is licensed and prequalified by departments of transportation in more than 35 states to perform pavement preservation work. Our crews travel the country year-round based on where we’re needed.
-
Does ESS establish ongoing, on-demand preservation contracts with DOT?
Yes. ESS is capable of performing Job Order Contracting (JOC) for pavement maintenance services. We also routinely procure single contracts through competitive Design-Bid-Build methods.
-
What’s the difference between pavement preservation and grinding and grooving?
Pavement preservation is a proactive approach that applies treatments early in the pavement’s life to slow deterioration, extend its lifespan, and avoid expensive repairs later. Grinding and grooving focus on performance and safety. Diamond grinding smooths out imperfections and reduces noise, while grooving improves traction and drainage.
-
At what stage of a road’s life cycle is preservation needed?
Concrete and asphalt pavement breaks down depending on many variables. Preservation methods can be used multiple times during the lifespan of a given surface to postpone replacement.
-
What kind of training does ESS provide for pavement preservation careers?
We train extensively for the role of diamond grinding operator and even offer candidates the opportunity to gain their CDL license through our in-house CDL program.
