Can you share a favorite memory from your time with ESS?
I love teaching the new hires things and watching them come along. A few of the guys I’ve worked with, I’ve had the pleasure of watching them retire confidently with the ESOP. My crane operator literally just retired a little over a month ago and it’s cool to watch him be able to enjoy the other parts of life. Stay with it, a 401k is great — but the ESOP is better!

As a veteran employee-owner, what advice would you give to younger employee-owners?
Help the other crews. Remember that your scope of the job is not the only thing going on. Quality work on the dirt, pipe, and concrete scopes all have to be done in order for the project to make money. Don’t leave a mess for the next part of the job, whether it’s something from ESS or our subcontractors. The faster they can get done the more money everyone makes — and that’s ESOP MONEY!
