Get to Know Greg Hill
It’s our amazing employee-owners that make us, well, us. This month, we’ll be featuring Greg Hill, Underground Utility Foreman.
Hill has nearly 40 years of experience in the construction industry. Hill joined the ESS team as a concrete laborer in 2018 and quickly moved into his current role as Utility Foreman for the Springfield Branch. Hill is currently leading a pipe crew at the Aspen Heights project in Fayetteville, AR.
When asked what his favorite part about his job is, Hill said “It’s three things: being in leadership; accomplishing difficult jobs; and hitting production numbers out of the park!” After interviewing one of Hill’s crew members, Spencer Rozell aka “Ravioli”, we were left with no questions as to why those three things are Greg’s favorite part about his job. Rozell said, “He’s a servant leader, he never asks us to do anything he hasn’t done or isn’t willing to do himself. Don’t get me wrong, he pushes us for sure, but he’s got tact and he takes the time to teach us how to plan ahead, and that’s what makes us all want to work harder, be successful, and produce for him and the company.”
Jason Rode, Vice President also had a few words to say about Greg’s leadership. “Greg has been one hell of an addition to our underground utility crews, bringing almost 40 years of experience. He has just the right amount of old school push yet a genuine mentor for the younger guys. I wish we had ten more just like him.”
After nearly 4 decades in the industry Greg knows a thing or two about construction, so we asked him what his advice is for anyone starting out in their career. His response was “do your best everyday, be proud of your accomplishments, and kick a** at your job!” If you’ve worked with Greg you’ve probably heard him say “You know what I mean?” and after spending time with Greg and his crew it’s obvious, they really do know what he means.
His passion for helping others succeed doesn’t stop when he punches the time clock, it carries through to his life outside of work. When he’s not at work, Greg is sharing his passion for wildlife conservation with others through guided turkey hunts.
