Emery Sapp & Sons wins three ABC Arkansas Excellence in Construction awards

Adding eagles to our trophy case is always exciting. This year, we’re three times as thrilled: Our employee-owners brought home three Excellence in Construction (EIC) awards from Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Arkansas!

These eagles don’t come easily. They’re awarded to top-tier quality, premier problem-solving, and best-in-class construction projects. This year, our team won for their work on XNA West Terminal Apron Expansion, ARDOT 090472 Route 340 Benton Co., and  Dean’s Trail Phase 3A

XNA West Terminal Apron Expansion

This three-phase project spanned more than 15 acres and included 16,550 cubic yards of grading and excavation, 28,000 square yards of 15-inch concrete paving and an additional 28,000 square yards of cement-treated base (CTB) and cement-treated permeable base (CTPB).

We self-performed 85% of this project over the course of 11 months, proudly delivering our work according to schedule for our partners. Phase 1 covered most of the project’s grading, excavation, concrete and asphalt pavement removal, as well as 70% of the necessary storm utility improvements.

Phase 1A consisted of a 45-day closure period of XNA’s main taxiway to build connector Taxiway Golf. This work included the installation of a 10-foot cast-in-place airport-rated grate inlet and pre-cast storm structure. Phase 2 included another 45-day closure to connect the newly constructed West Apron to the existing Taxiway Foxtrot. The XNA West Terminal Apron Expansion project is the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Northwest Arkansas, and we were honored to be a part of it.

The teamwork displayed throughout the project was award-worthy, combining talents and tools available to successfully complete the expansion. With this terminal expansion, we paved the groundwork to support the immense growth and progress unfolding in Northwest Arkansas.

ARDOT 090472 Route 340 Benton Co.

The vital infrastructure improvements made during the Route 340 Benton County project support the continued expansion of the Northwest Arkansas region. Our crews managed the demolition and replacement of two failing bridge structures over Tanyard Creek and Little Sugar Creek in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

The project scope included the addition of turn lanes at major intersections, asphalt paving, storm drainage improvements, concrete curb and gutter installation, concrete sidewalks, and the creation of a multi-use pedestrian path. The 42-month project presented several significant, unique challenges, from unexpected flooding to complex logistical issues.

ESS innovated solutions along the way that kept the project on track toward a safe, successful completion. The team delivered a project that not only modernized critical infrastructure but also significantly enhanced the quality of life for residents and visitors of Northwest Arkansas.

Dean’s Trail Phase 3A

This 1.5-mile multi-use trail extends from Highway 412 to Don Tyson Parkway, linking downtown Springdale to the Razorback Greenway Trail and laying the groundwork for future connections to Fayetteville.

We self-performed 60% of the work over 12 months, implementing innovative solutions to maximize efficiency and cost savings. Our scope included earthwork, machine concrete paving for a 12-foot-wide trail, storm drainage improvements, lighting and fencing. As part of our commitment to delivering value, ESS eliminated a box culvert through value engineering, saving the City of Springdale more than $275,000.

The completion of the Dean’s Trail Phase 3A extension marked an exciting step forward for Springdale’s trail network, and we were honored to contribute to this transformative project.

Excellence built by employee-owners

These awards are a testament to the hard-working employee-owners who made it happen. Their commitment to producing best-in-class projects is the reason we’re adding eagles to the trophy shelf.
