Understanding UPM: The Superior Pothole Repair
If you’ve spent any time around roadwork, you know not all patch materials are created equal. Some hold. Some don’t. And some end up getting replaced not long after they’re laid down.
That’s the difference with Unique Paving Materials (UPM).
UPM is a high-performance asphalt patch material designed for potholes, small road repairs, and even some chip and seal projects. Made from a blend of carefully selected aggregate and proprietary oil, UPM is engineered to perform in real-world conditions where traditional materials fall short.
How do you make UPM?
The process starts with sourcing high-quality aggregate and testing it to meet strict performance standards. If it doesn’t meet their standards, it doesn’t get used.
Once approved, it’s blended on-site using a pug mill with UPM’s proprietary oil. Every batch is monitored and tested in real time to ensure a consistent, high-performing product that’s built to last.
What makes UPM different from traditional cold mix?
Unlike traditional cold mix, UPM doesn’t require perfect conditions to work. It can be placed in potholes with standing water, holds its shape, and stays where it’s put.
It also doesn’t dry out or harden in storage. Crews don’t have to fight it, break it up, or waste time trying to make it usable again. It stays pliable, workable, and ready when you need it.
How can I get UPM?
ESS brings together a team of experts who supply and utilize UPM across multiple Midwest locations, including Palmyra, Poplar Bluff, Marshall, and Springfield, Missouri, with additional locations planned in the future.
Material can be picked up directly or delivered to your site, depending on what the job calls for.
