Trevor Lutz honored with Job Point Award of Excellence
The construction industry is constantly focused on workforce development. Building the next generation is vital to any company’s success. But what happens to the people brought into the industry?
Meet Trevor Lutz. Trevor is a 2025 recipient of the Job Point Award of Excellence. His story is one of determination, hard work and community support.
Finding a new path
Trevor’s construction story starts when he joined Job Point’s YouthBuild program in April 2020. Job Point is a Missouri employment center and Community Development Corporation. Their YouthBuild program helps the next generation work toward their goals while earning their HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) and learning employability skills.
Looking to the future, like many young people, he found himself unsure of his next steps. But YouthBuild offered a new path that combined education, hands-on training and mentorship. By December, Trevor had successfully completed his HiSET and earned certifications in Highway Heavy Construction (HMR).
His dedication and drive opened new doors. He was offered an On-the-Job Training opportunity with Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS). After completing 100 hours of training, Trevor was officially hired in May 2021.

Since then, Trevor has thrived in his career at ESS. He works on the saw/seal patching crew, traveling and taking on more responsibility. His growth has been fueled by curiosity and initiative. He learned to operate equipment by asking questions, observing and seizing every opportunity to learn.
“Trevor has always been a good employee-owner,” said Jason Peterson, Trevor’s supervisor. “He works hard and gets along with others. He’s an all-around good hand.”
Trevor’s willingness to go above and beyond, whether staying late to finish a job or arriving early to prepare, has made him a valuable member of the team.
Trevor’s story is more than a personal success. It’s a powerful example of what happens when we develop the next generation. His recognition with the Job Point Award of Excellence is a celebration of building the future and the impact of community-based programs like YouthBuild.
