Congressman Onder tours I-70 project, seeing impact of Missouri infrastructure
The Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) crews had the honor of welcoming Congressman Bob Onder, alongside representatives from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Heart of America chapter, to the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project jobsite.
When elected officials step into steel-toed boots, it makes a lasting impact. More than a photo op, this visit was a real opportunity for a Missouri leader to walk the jobsite, meet the people behind the progress, and see the real work being done to improve Missouri’s infrastructure.
“You can’t replace the feeling of being on the jobsite,” said Michele Roberts-Bauer, ABC Heart of America chapter president. “When you’re able to see, feel and touch a project as it is being built, you really appreciate the men and women going to work every day.”
The on-the-site impact
Congressman Onder, a representative from Missouri’s Third District, is no stranger to infrastructure. He currently serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, making decisions that directly impact our industry.
Talking about infrastructure in terms of policymaking is powerful, but lacks the boots-on-the-ground perspective that goes into building these projects. When Congressman Onder visited our site, it bridged the gap between policy and projects. It created a real connection between decision-making and earthmoving.
Seeing a jobsite in action helps officials understand the full scope and complexity of major highway construction. These firsthand experiences turn observers into advocates, championing our industry, projects, and dedicated crews. The work done across jobsites transforms communities and shapes the future of infrastructure.
Making Missouri history
Congressman Onder learned the design-build process and safety standards of our employee-owners’ work on the largest construction project to date in Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) history. This $600-million project is part of a broader initiative to modernize and expand I-70 across the state.
“It was rewarding to highlight the incredible employee-owners of Emery Sapp & Sons with a congressman who gets to see how the work is directly impacting the community,” said Roberts-Bauer.
As Missouri continues to invest in infrastructure, we’re proud to be part of the progress. Our employee-owners are encouraged by leaders like Congressman Onder, who are taking time to see the projects and people who make them happen. It’s our hope that our leaders bring the experience back with them when shaping policy for our industry.
