Setting the Standard in Bridge Construction

When BuildWitt — a company reshaping how the construction industry attracts, trains, and retains its workforce through short, practical video lessons — set out to create a new series on bridge construction, they didn’t have to look far for the right partner. They came to Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS).

BuildWitt’s training content covers everything from equipment operation, safety practices, and crew communication to leadership development and project management. For this series, their team joined our heavy highway crew on the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville project MoDOT’s largest project to date to capture those lessons in action.

The Improve I-70 project is a major effort to modernize Missouri’s I-70 corridor, including work on more than 20 bridges and a transformative investment in the state’s infrastructure. Its scale and complexity made it the perfect backdrop to highlight the real-world skills and teamwork behind modern bridge construction.

Buildwitt set out to document every step of the bridge-building process: planning and engineering, site prep and layout, pile driving, and the follow-through that connects piles to caps and girders. Their cameras followed our employee-owners as they demonstrated the fundamentals — how piles are driven, how crews communicate, and how precision and safety go hand-in-hand on a complex project

Our Employee-Owners, Our Capabilities

To dig into all the on-the-ground expertise, BuildWitt turned to two of our own employee-owners Troy Hunt and Dustin Harre. With more than 30 years of experience each, these guys know the work inside and out. As subject matter experts for the series, they walked the BuildWitt team through the ins and outs of pile driving, sharing what it takes to plan, communicate, and get the job done safely and efficiently.

At ESS, everything starts with our employee-owners. The training videos captured the knowledge, work ethic, and teamwork of our crews, showing the rest of the industry what it means to build with precision, safety, and pride.

Buildwitt chose ESS because our crews have the depth of experience to deliver on even the toughest infrastructure projects. Being featured in BuildWitt’s training video series is proof that our capabilities don’t just meet expectations — they set the benchmark, and our crews are writing the playbook for how it’s done.

By sharing our process and approach, we’re helping train teams across the country and raising the bar for safety, performance, and craftsmanship throughout the industry. Because when it comes to building lasting infrastructure and transforming communities — nobody does it better.
