When we say we’re committed to quality at ESS, that applies to every batch of the more than 1.2 million tons of hot-mix asphalt our plant team produces each year. We continuously test the material before it goes out the door of our 12 plant locations to ensure it meets the quality guarantee we make to our customers and clients. We do so using advanced technology and lab-testing techniques to custom manufacture the material to meet project specifications.
As one of the region’s largest hot-mix producers, ESS is also committed to being environmentally responsible throughout our operations. This includes recycling nearly 100% of the asphalt removed by the milling process, saving costs for our clients and the environment.

Does ESS produce warm-mix asphalt?
Yes, our plant facilities are capable of producing warm-mix and cold-mix asphalt, in addition to commonly produced hot-mix material.

When you say you recycle 100% of materials used, what does that include?
Our process of manufacturing asphalt includes the use of previously laid asphalt material milled by our paving teams. We also process used roofing shingles for use in some mixes.

What is the production capacity of your manufacturing facilities?
While the individual production capacity varies by plant, our facilities have collectively produced more than 1.2 Million tons of asphalt in a single calendar year to serve customers in the Midwest.

Do ESS plants manufacture asphalt year-round?
Unfortunately, our region is typically shut-down for paving during winter months due to cold temperatures. However, we limit seasonal down-time for plant personnel by using winter months for routine maintenance and training.
