WIC Week 2022: Meet Stacy McGeehon
Get to know Stacy McGeehon, our job site water control warrior. Stacy is an Arizona native and employee-owner at our partner company, Achen-Gardner Construction.
Q: What’s your role?
A: I am a Water Control Specialist. I operate the big truck with the round tank attached. My duties are to control the dust and moisture for the dirt that is being moved around and or hauled off. Without a water truck, most job sites would be unbearable for the other crew members due to the amount of dust blowing around.
Q: How long have you been in the construction industry?
A: I am 52 years old and have been in the construction industry for most of my working experience. I figured out early I am not the indoor type of person. In my life, I have several different types of construction under my belt.
- tile installer
- built roadways
- framed houses
- some electrical
- remodeled homes
- built pump jack pads in oil fields in Texas
- fracture pond
And now ……..
- pipe line
That is just a little bit of history.
Q: Who do you look up to in your career?
A: I look up to quite a few people. But since we’re talking career-related, two people come to mind. First, my late boyfriend Don McCracken. This man taught me everything he knew about the dirt work and the equipment that goes with it. He was my best friend. I lost him in 2016 to a car crash. I know he would be proud of me today.
Next is my friend Kenny Karmicheal, the man that taught me everything there is to know about trucking. He inspired me to obtain my CDL. Thanks, Kenny! I lost him in 2021 to COVID. He as well would be very proud of me today.
Q: Where do you think the industry is going?
A: I can only hope the industry is headed out of the slump it’s in now. This pandemic has hit everyone and companies very hard. So for my sake, I hope it skyrockets. I do what I do because I love what I do, and that will never change.
Q: What celebrity would you want to sing karaoke with?
A: Adam Sandler. He can’t sing either. So if nothing else, we would look like fools together. Lol.
Q: What is one piece of equipment would you take if you were on a deserted island?
A: The water truck, if it was full. At least I wouldn’t be thirsty. I could use the tank to catch more water, sleep and I would never have to worry about it running out of fuel. I could not imagine sleeping in the operator seat of any other piece of equipment.
Q: What makes you proud of working in the construction industry?
A: I chose this career to prove to myself, I can do anything I want. I love my job at Achen-Gardner Construction.
I would like to give a shout out to my fellow crew members on Mike’s crew….
Thanks guys for always watching out for one another, making me feel welcomed on my first day and everyday after. Y’all are the reason women like myself can make it in construction. And yes, Gary, I am a girl. I work like a dude, but I am all girl. So thank you guys, I appreciate you all.
