Whirlpool Distribution Center

ESS was awarded the civil contract for the Whirlpool Distribution Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Whirlpool’s $55 million investment in the new FDC, an 800,000 square foot facility, will approximately double the size of its footprint in Tulsa. The investment will support increased production capacity in the plant and improve efficiencies within the company’s existing supply chain across North America, helping Whirlpool to continue to deliver products to its growing customer base.

Scope of Work

This project had multiple challenges that the ESS team had to creatively overcome to construct the 800,000 SF distribution center. One of which was that the existing facility discharged over 50% of the existing stormwater onto our project site. On top of that, the existing soils were not favorable for construction so approximately 150,000 CY of material had to be removed and replaced with offsite soils. The construction of this massive distribution center included soil stabilization, erosion control, earthwork, sewer and water installation and storm sewer installation. The ESS team placed baserock on the building pad and parking lots with heavy duty concrete pavement, dolly pads and curb and gutter placement. ESS successfully delivered this project on time to our clients, ARCO.
