In the wake of the major damages that the St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri obtained during an EF-5 tornado, McCarthy Building Companies contracted Emery Sapp & Sons for the mass grading, installation of site utilities, and paving for the new hospital that would promptly take its place. The Joplin Replacement Hospital is an addition to the growing list of successful projects that ESS has performed for Mercy Health Systems to help serve and drive opportunities in the Springfield and Joplin areas.

Scope of Work

For this job, ESS excavated 816,000 cubic yards of material and completed an additional 200,000 cubic yards of mass grading. Demolished 19 houses, cleared 60 acres and replaced sewer lines ranging from 20–40 feet. For the site utilities, ESS installed nearly 25,000 linear feet of pipe and utilities, 13 junction boxes, 125 curb inlets, 120 linear feet of cast-in-place weir wall.
