I-435 & I-70 Interchange
Kansas City, MO
Selected to build the I-435 & I-70 interchange project for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), our teams have been challenged to replace the bridges within the interchange and concurrently construct a brand new interchange in a partial turbine design. This new interchange will enhance the safety within the densely-travelled Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals stadium corridor.

Scope of Work
The team developed a fast-track schedule and meticulous phasing plan to efficiently reconstruct the high-profile interchange. The project includes demolition of all existing structures, full bridge replacements, removal of left exits, and major infrastructure improvements to loop ramp configuration. ESS developed innovative and practical ways to ease congestion and enhance safety measures with a comprehensive maintenance of traffic plan. Additionally, ESS partnered with DYWIDAG to assist with post-tensioning the pier caps, a sophisticated reinforcement method, to ensure sound structural integrity. The project includes excavating and grading more than 740,000 cubic yards of dirt, the removal of more than 66,500 cubic yards of concrete, and placement of more than 30,000 cubic yards of concrete pavement.
