ARDOT Carroll County Hwy 62 Mill & Overlay

Project Overview

Emery Sapp & Sons is partnering with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) to perform a mill and overlay of U.S. Highway 62 in Carroll County. This 12.7-mile-long highway directly connects Berryville and Eureka Springs in Northwest Arkansas. Once completed, the highway will feature a smoother and safer surface to drive on, restoring the pavement’s lifespan for years to come.

As the general contractor, ESS is performing approximately 144,010 square yards of asphalt milling and 43,336 tons of asphalt across 12.3 miles of US 62. The project also includes the removal and disposal of guardrail, aggregate base course, and patching existing asphalt pavement.

One of the main challenges ESS faces is managing the traffic on an active highway. In order to keep traffic moving, all work is being performed in a 1-lane work zone. Given the high volume of traffic, a high level of collaboration, commitment, and constant communication between crews is essential to prioritizing safety onsite.

To ensure the project stays on track for its completion date, members from ESS’ Joplin asphalt crew have been brought onsite to assist the project team. This collaboration between crews will help the work progress efficiently and safely, ensuring the finished highway meets the standards of ARDOT and the Northwest Arkansas community.
