Project Overview
After years of record-breaking passenger turnout, the Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF) selected Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) to lead the critical $8.4 million expansion of its sole terminal apron. Serving as general contractor, ESS delivered improvements that significantly reduce congestion for passengers and flight crews by completing 14,400 cubic yards of earthwork, 30,000 square yards of base rock, 30,000 square yards of cement-treated permeable base (CTPB) and 30,000 square yards of 15-inch concrete pavement.
With only one passenger terminal and adjacent apron, maintaining continuous aircraft operations throughout construction was essential. ESS strategically maximized resources and scheduling to successfully complete the full-depth expansion within a tight delivery window. The team also utilized an on-site batch plant to reduce haul times, control material costs and keep production moving efficiently.
Safety remained the top priority throughout construction, especially given the unique demands of an active aviation environment. One key focus was mitigating foreign object debris (FOD), which poses risks to aircraft, passengers and operations. ESS worked closely with SGF personnel to ensure all crews were properly trained and maintained the highest safety standards at every stage of the project.
The completed apron expansion provides SGF with increased operational flexibility and improved control over aircraft arrivals, fueling and departures. Passengers now benefit from a more efficient and streamlined travel experience with reduced congestion in the terminal area.
