Project Overview
Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) is proud to have completed a new roadway improvement project along 20th Street in Joplin, Missouri. The project delivered nearly two miles of roadway improvements designed to improve traffic flow and access for local businesses and residents in the Joplin area. This major improvement is an investment to the region’s future by creating a corridor that prioritizes safety, traffic volumes, and road access.
The scope of work included underground utilities, grading and excavation, concrete paving and asphalt paving. The project was delivered in six phases with a demanding schedule. Multiple utility conflicts came up along the corridor that required the crews to stay on top of these changes while staying on schedule. The crews worked hard to keep the project on track and their efforts resulted in meeting the client’s schedule while maintaining high-quality standards.
Now complete, the roadway features two new roundabouts along West 20th Street. The first at the intersection of 20th Street and Country Club Drive/Black Cat Road and the second at the intersection of 20th Street and Central City Road. The ESS team also added an additional center turn lane, converting the original two-lane road into three lanes. Together, these improvements help connect 20th Street to the state line.
Completed in September 2026, the 20th Street Improvements project reflects ESS’ ability to deliver a $10 million design-bid-build project on schedule with a priority in safety and efficiency. ESS is proud to have worked closely with the City of Joplin to deliver this major roadway improvement and looks forward to future opportunities as partners.
