Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto

Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) is proud to partner with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) on an exciting $37.5-million resurfacing project along Interstate 49 in Washington County. Starting in March 2024 and completing in early 2025, this project will resurface 42 lane miles of I-49 between the Crawford County Line and Highway 62.

The scope of work includes comprehensive spall repair, applying a 2” asphalt overlay and a ¾” ultrathin layer, and strengthening the base shoulders. One of the significant challenges encountered during the project was managing the heavy traffic flow south of the West Fork exit. ESS collaborated with ARDOT to shift all paving operations to nighttime hours to ensure minimal disruption to the public and maintain efficiency.

At ESS, safety is paramount. Our field project teams hold jobsite safety analysis (JSA) meetings and Toolbox Talks to address potential hazards and provide continuous project-specific training. In addition, we’ve partnered with subcontractor, Time Striping, to provide top-tier traffic control throughout the project to ensure the safety of all crews and travelers. By embracing innovative approaches and prioritizing safety, ESS is ready to deliver another successful project that benefits the local community and all who travel Interstate 49.
