Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) is currently leading the civil site construction for a new elementary school in southwest Columbia, Missouri, adjacent to John Warner Middle School. The project, which broke ground in April 2024, involves the construction of a 75,500-square-foot facility designed to accommodate 750 students and 140 staff. The site will also include a car drop-off lane with a 65+ car stacking ability, a 165-space parking lot, three playgrounds for various age levels, and a multi-purpose field. The school is scheduled for completion fall 2026.
The site work includes extensive preparation and infrastructure development, such as excavating 33,320 cubic yards of earth, installing 5,000 square yards of concrete paving, and laying more than 33,000 linear feet of sidewalks. Additionally, 387 linear feet of water lines will be installed, and Sinclair Road will be widened to manage increased traffic. A foundation of 44 inches of Low Volume Change (LVC) material will also be placed under the building pad for stability.
The project presented challenges, particularly in coordinating the lane widening on Sinclair Road during school breaks to ensure student safety. Managing the large site with multiple subcontractors required careful planning to avoid work overlaps. Safety remained a top priority, with daily Task Hazard Analyses and weekly toolbox talks to address potential risks. ESS is proud to be a civil subcontractor with general contractor, Reinhardt Wilson, on this exciting school project for Columbia Public Schools.
