Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
As the selected general contractor by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) performed milling and overlaying of approximately 16 miles of Highway 265 in Madison and Washington counties. ARDOT needed to improve the surface of this connecting highway to ensure the overall driving safety of commuters.
Beginning in early spring of 2024, ESS delivered various scopes such as aggregate base course, Asphalt Concrete Hot Mix (ACHM) surface course, cold milling asphalt pavement, ACHM patching of the existing roadway, maintenance of traffic, rumble strips, pavement marking, and other miscellaneous items.
One of the main project challenges was managing the heavy traffic on this two-lane busy highway, which sees an average of 12,000 vehicles per day. Given the high traffic volume, ESS placed a priority on safety, conducting some operations at night. Weather conditions also posed difficulties, as early spring nighttime temperatures were sometimes too cold to work.
To minimize traffic delays during construction, ESS ensured that at least one lane remained open at all times. This approach kept the project on schedule and minimized disruption for residents and the traveling public. As a result, the project advanced smoothly, with crews paving a total of 275,667 square yards of asphalt and finishing on schedule in June 2024.
