Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) partnered with the Greene County Highway Department to deliver Phase 2 of the Kansas Expressway, continuing the work initiated in Phase 1 to enhance connectivity and transportation efficiency in southern Greene County. This extension project alleviates traffic congestion and improves multimodal transportation options for the growing community.
The project extended the Kansas Expressway between Republic Road and Farm Road 190, constructing a two-lane roadway with turning lanes at key intersections. ESS also delivered major stormwater management improvements and added pedestrian and bicycle paths to support safer, more accessible travel for all users. The team’s scope included clearing, earthwork, blasting, storm sewer installation, base rock placement, curb and gutter construction, sidewalk installation, and asphalt paving — collectively improving the roadway’s durability and functionality.
Early in the process, ESS collaborated with the project team to implement an innovative value engineering (VE) solution. Instead of the originally designed 3:1 slope, the team proposed vertical split-face rock walls for a portion of the corridor. This redesign enhanced structural integrity and reduced the total project cost by $1 million, demonstrating ESS’s commitment to efficient, high-quality construction solutions.
Through careful coordination and steady progress, the team successfully completed the project on schedule in September 2025. With a thoughtfully designed roadway and new multimodal connections, the Kansas Expressway Phase 2 now provides safer, smoother travel while promoting alternative modes of transportation.
This project underscores ESS’s dedication to building infrastructure that enhances safety, accessibility, and quality of life for Greene County residents.
