Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Section 2-3-3.h of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines states that all runways containing six stripes must be at least 75 feet wide. Following these federal regulations, the City of Bentonville, Arkansas contracted Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) to widen Runway 18-36 at the Bentonville Municipal Airport (VBT) from 65 to 75 feet. Upon receiving this opportunity from the city, ESS worked closely with our engineering partners at Garver to design the runway widening and additional lighting improvements.
The VBT Airport can assist a high volume of aircraft, often facilitating more than 100 pilots on a given day. As the only paved landing site at VBT, it was immediately understood that Runway 18-36 is the lifeline of this facility. Thanks to years of strong partnership between ESS and the City of Bentonville, VBT graciously shut down all aviation operations to allow our crew full, unfettered access to the jobsite.
In total, ESS crews completed more than 30,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 1,100 tons of asphalt paving, and 2,077 square yards of asphalt milling. Additional scopes included the construction of 4,400 linear feet of runway lighting improvements, signage, and NAVAID installation. Given the importance of safety in all means of transportation, ESS prides itself on these efforts to meet and exceed FAA guidelines.
