Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) was awarded the Nifong Boulevard Improvements project by the City of Columbia, MO to add two additional through lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks to the neighborhood. Crews improved the intersections along Nifong between Providence and Willowcreek, as well as along Forum between Nifong and Green Meadows. ESS also worked collaboratively with the developer of nearby commercial projects to construct two new streets adjacent to the site - Aurora Drive and Nova Way.
Widening the Nifong Corridor eliminated traffic congestion and helped the traveling public reach their destinations on the ever-expanding southwest quadrant of Columbia. The team utilized small dozers, skid loaders, and compactors to perform the linear grading needed for the widening of the project while conventional pipe crews consisting of track hoes and loaders installed the storm sewer infrastructure. The paving team also utilized a variable-width concrete paver to efficiently complete a number of diverse concrete widening sections throughout the corridor.
The Nifong Boulevard Improvements project was truly a team effort that benefited from our skilled local workforce. ESS surveying, QC testing, support crew services, underground utility, paving, and hand pour crews all played an enormous role in delivering this successfully.
Upon completion, the crew removed 25,000 square yards of pavement and excavated another 12,000 cubic yards before paving 85,000 square yards of asphalt overlay and 105,000 square feet of concrete sidewalk. This project was completed on schedule in 18 months.
