Project Overview

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) selected Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) as the General Contractor for the $9.7 million dollar widening of Route 14 in Christian County. This project consisted of expanding the road to five lanes between 32nd Street west of U.S. Route 65 and the Finley River bridge. One notable challenge of this project included the relocation of over 9,500 linear feet of underground utilities, which required crews to halt lane expansions while underground utilities were relocated. Although this was a major factor to our schedule, ESS was aware of the possibility and was prepared to find alternative ways to keep the project on track. Another significant obstacle was the construction of the two-pedestrian underpass across Route 14. ESS crews worked 24/7 from the time they shut down Route 14 on Friday evening to the time they opened it back up on Sunday. The traffic management and safety protocols enacted while working as efficiently as possible allowed ESS to complete the project on time and within budget.
