Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company selected Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) to be their civil construction expert on a Topeka distribution center for a Fortune-5 global retailer (client confidential). This retail giant was eager to construct a new 1.8 million square foot distribution center in Topeka's Kanza Fire Commerce Park. Employing 300 full-time employees, this is the largest distribution center in the state of Kansas.
ESS was contracted by the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company to perform all site work and underground utilities. ESS was awarded this project for its innovative approach to the soil treatment method. Layered beneath the building site, there is a four-foot Low Volume Change (LVC) section. Our team treated the onsite soils with Lime Kiln Dust (LKD) to lower the Plasticity Index of the soils and meet project specifications. This solution reduced project costs and accelerated the production schedule by weeks.
This project site was massive, coming in at 278 acres, while the building site spans 42 acres. To ensure that they kept up with the expansive utility installation, ESS had three separate crews working in tandem to meet the aggressive project schedule bringing jobs to the Topeka area on-time
