Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Highway 72 is the critical link between Pea Ridge and the surrounding county to the fast-growing city of Bentonville, Arkansas. With major employers such as the Walmart Headquarters in Bentonville, Highway 72 experiences high levels of daily commuter travel. For the safety of the residents and commuters, the cracked, aging road was in need of an update.
Road repairs called for an overlay of more than 13 miles of Highway 72.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) chose Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) for the job. After ESS was chosen, ARDOT decided to up the ante and go further with the overlay adding 8,272 tons to the previously chosen 38,000-ton paving job. ESS adapted to the new distance and tonnage and added more mix to their operations.
It was vital to alleviate any traffic delays caused by construction since this highway is crucial to the daily commute of many Pea Ridge and Bentonville residents. To do so, ESS kept at least one lane of traffic open at all times and completed a majority of the project at night. This kept both the residents and the project on schedule.
The overlay was completed only three months after construction began. With a repaired road, travelers experience smooth commutes to and from Bentonville.
