Project Overview
When Buc-ee’s made its highly anticipated Missouri debut, ESS was part of the team trusted to deliver the landmark project along the heavily traveled I-44 corridor in Springfield. Serving as a subcontractor to Berry Construction, ESS self-performed key site development scopes including grading, underground utilities, and concrete paving, while also completing pavement striping, bore casing, and pipe installation within an active, high-traffic environment.
With an aggressive schedule and constant activity across the site, ESS adapted quickly to evolving conditions, maintaining production while prioritizing safety. Crews navigated weather challenges, shifting site logistics, and live interstate traffic, leveraging GPS machine control, stringless paving, and drone tracking to maintain efficiency and coordination across both sitework and MoDOT roadway improvements.
Through innovative approaches, including sourcing more than 40,000 cubic yards of material locally, ESS reduced costs while keeping the project on track. Today, the project stands as a major regional destination, and ESS is proud to have helped deliver Missouri’s first Buc-ee’s and a highly visible addition to the I-44 corridor.
