Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto

Furthering our partnership with Tulsa International Airport (TUL), Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) is proud to play our part in American Airlines' continued investment in Oklahoma. This investment marks the largest single capital investment in Tulsa’s history while reinforcing American Airlines' long-term commitment to the city.

The American Airlines Apron Project will be one of 19 projects totaling $100.4 million in TUL’s capital improvement plan. This project will expand the company’s footprint at the global airport and support their premier services center. Conducting nearly half of the airline’s overall maintenance work, it will be the largest maintenance area in the world for American Airlines.

ESS has been contracted to perform nearly $ 24 million in turnkey infrastructure services, including an astounding 114,000 square yards of pavement removal, 19,250 cubic yards of grading and excavation, and 113,585 cubic yards of concrete placement. The ESS crew also completed supplemental storm sewer and waterline installation work. With a trusted network of professionals in the area, ESS partnered with an in-network subcontractor to complete the electrical work.

ESS began construction of the new apron in August of 2022. The concrete improvement work for the project surrounds the maintenance areas and hanger bays. This is a critical stretch of pavement that provides aircraft access from the taxiway to the hangar facility for repairs and routine maintenance. The team divided the site into 6 distinct areas and strategically sequenced the work within these areas to maintain all movement and non-movement areas. This has proved to be an innovative and effective method for maintaining safe and productive construction operations on site.

This project is anticipated to be complete in the winter of 2024.
