Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto

The Tiger Ave and Hospital Drive project is an essential addition to the city of Columbia, Missouri. The project consisted of a complete teardown and rebuild of a highly trafficked intersection located on the University of Missouri (MU) campus. ESS crews had 70 calendar days to install new storm, sanitary, water, and electrical lines, as well as pour both regular and stamped concrete for a new roundabout. Our crews poured almost 650 yards of charcoal colored concrete with a hand stamped cobblestone pattern. With this being a high foot traffic area, our crews were very detail-oriented with how the finished concrete pavement was going to appear. Not only is this project going to improve a busy campus, but it also is going to benefit the brand new children’s hospital that’s right next door. The hospital will be opening in 2024 so it was crucial that the area had a solution to mitigate traffic.

Some major challenges included the tight schedule and working around the existing underground utilities. With operating in between a university and hospital, there were both live and dead utilities scattered throughout the site. This made it extremely difficult to navigate the project and our crews had to be extra cautious. Locating MU’s existing private utilities took an immense amount of coordination with the university and meticulous excavation from our field operators. This level of detail resulted in ESS not having any utility strikes, and proactive management of the project led the job to be completed on schedule.
