Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto

The Tiger Ave and Hospital Drive project is an essential addition to the city of Columbia, Missouri. The project consisted of a complete teardown and rebuild of a highly trafficked intersection located on the University of Missouri (MU) campus. Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) crews had 70 calendar days to install new storm, sanitary, water, and electrical lines, as well as pour both regular and stamped concrete for a new roundabout. Our crews poured nearly 650 yards of charcoal colored concrete with a hand stamped cobblestone pattern. Given the volume of foot traffic in the area, the project team was meticulous when placing the concrete pavement to ensure a high quality product.

Some major challenges included the tight schedule and working around the existing underground utilities. With operating in between a university and hospital, there were both live and dead utilities scattered throughout the site. This made it extremely difficult to navigate the project and our crews had to be extra cautious. Locating MU’s existing private utilities took an immense amount of coordination with the university and detailed excavation from our field operators. This level of caution and proactive management resulted in a timely delivery with zero utility strikes. This work not only improves a busy campus, but it also benefits the brand new children’s hospital located directly next door. ESS is grateful for the opportunity to contribute safe infrastructure for students and community members of Columbia, Missouri.
