Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) was named as the General Contractor for the Monett Regional Airport Runway 18-36 extension project. ESS crews constructed a newer, longer runway before converting and expanding the existing runway into a parallel taxiway. The previously 5,000-foot runway was extended to 6,001 feet to allow larger commercial aircraft to land safely at the airport, specifically in cases of poor weather conditions. The additional landing space also provides an extra level of safety for pilots arriving and departing from Monett Regional Airport.
Aircraft traffic did not slow on the existing runway throughout construction. The nearby activity required that crews abide by a specific safety standard that limited work zone operations, like open trenches and drop-offs. Daily planning, communication, and immense attention to detail allowed the runway to remain usable while construction continued. ESS moved more than 200,000 cubic yards of dirt while constructing the new runway. The nearly $14 million project was supported by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and is expected to contribute substantially to the local economy as additional aircraft can now safely land.
