Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
This project consisted of widening US-65 to a six-lane highway, with three lanes in each direction, between I-44 and US-60 in Springfield, Missouri. This project included heavy bridge construction and renovation. The demolition and construction of a new bridge over BNSF’s Thayer substation line were executed in three stages in order to handle the existing traffic on US-65. Four of the seven bridges required the existing deck girder bridges to be widened to accept the additional lanes. Shoring plans were designed for the placement of each of the new concrete bridge decks while allowing traffic to flow under the bridges. Two bridges were complete re-decks over BNSF’s Cuba substation lines. Two large crash walls were also constructed adjacent to the tracks at these locations.
The resulting scope of work included; 67,759 cubic yards of excavation and grading, 20,332 cubic yards of embankment, 33,005 linear feet of storm sewer, and 233,814 square yards of concrete pavement and shoulders.
