Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
The South Lawrence Trafficway project consisted of major grading, bridge, and surfacing work on the K-10 connection, from south JCT US59/K-10 E to K-10 in Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas. The project included the construction of a new six-mile stretch of four-lane freeway and the creation of more than 300 acres of new wetlands, alleviating congestion on the streets of Lawrence and creating a southern bypass loop around the city. The new $138 million freeway was the largest single project in KDOT’s history and is projected to create a regional economic benefit that could reach $4 billion.
Within a span of 3 years, ESS constructed 21 bridges and 22 reinforced boxed culverts, moved over 4 million cubic yards of earth, stabilized more than 750,000 cubic yards of earth, and paved half a million square yards of concrete to deliver above and beyond expectations. A total of 372,714.25 working man-hours were completed on this project with ZERO lost time accidents.
