Powering Through: Solar Energy Project Team

When it comes to powering up performance, our team on this solar farm project has been crushing it. This crew is the definition of tough. Beyond the impressive project stats, the team has been taking on projects far from home, often for weeks at a time. Distance is a challenge, and the energy sector has its own set of unique safety regulations and client expectations. This crew? They’ve taken it head-on and delivered results and relationships beyond expectations.

POWERFUL PROJECT STATS

The scale and speed of these projects is an impressive feat. Picture a solar farm. Huge area with rows and rows of solar panels. Now imagine it before any construction has begun or roads have been placed. You’re left with one massive field, so wide you can’t see the boundaries of the project if you stand in the middle. That’s what the crew rolled into on day one. Intimidating, right?

Within four months, the crew tackled the 11,000-acre project. They completed 78,000 cubic yards of grading inches deep across the entire site in addition to constructing a network of interior roads throughout the solar farm.

MEET OWEN

Leading the charge on our solar projects is Operator Foreman Owen Sparks. He’s been with Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) for ten years and understands the company-wide expectations of delivering best-in-class results.

Owen has been instrumental in leading our recent energy opportunities. He’s not just keeping up with the additional safety reporting required; he’s making it a top priority and ensuring the rest of the crew does, too. His dedication to the project’s success has been key to building our relationship with the client, Moss & Associates. Owen’s open, transparent line of communication has created a strong foundation of trust.

“Owen’s effort to create a great partnership with the team on site and the crew’s performance on the projects have created a very positive relationship with Moss & Associates and continue to bring more opportunities in the door for future projects,” said Jesse Hinton P.E., assistant vice president.

“Owen made it a priority to ensure the quality of ESS’ work always exceeded the owner’s expectations. The crew took real ownership of our work, making safety and quality a top priority,” said Andrew Krumm, project manager. “They have continually gone above and beyond to ensure the solar project was a success. This has included working long hours, working through the weekend, and doing whatever it took to keep the project ahead of schedule.”

FEELING THE ENERGY

Working away from home means long hours and missing home-cooked meals. It’s also added an extra layer of energy to the crew. Spending a lot of time together has built relationships among the crew, leveled up their dedication to the work they do, and set the bar high for future opportunities.

“We’re a long way from home. It’s brought the crew together, and they’ve created their own tight-knit family,” said Charlie Dowell, field operations manager. “They’re all dedicated people who have made sacrifices to get the job done.”

Adapting to the energy sector hasn’t been easy, but this crew has proven they’ve got the grit to make it happen. They’ve pushed through long stretches away from home, made sure every new regulation is met, and tested new equipment to increase efficiency and innovation.

AMPED FOR WHAT’S NEXT

This crew and those on our other energy projects have paved the way for our company’s continued future in this market. Their hard work, adaptability and dedication are building the foundation for more opportunities down the road. With leaders like Owen and a team as committed as this one, we’re not just entering the energy market — we’re ready to own it.
