Project of the Year Award Winner
Our partner company, Achen-Gardner Construction received an American Public Works Association (APWA) Project of the Year Award for their work on the Salt River Siphon Repair Design-Build project. This achievement emphasizes Achen-Gardner’s continuous effort to deliver high-quality complex civil projects. The crew performed tremendous work on the largest segmented steel pipeline in Arizona and ESS is proud to recognize the accomplishments of this team.
About the Salt River Siphon Repair Project:
The water delivery system spans 336 miles across Arizona and delivers water usage to nearly 80% of the state’s population. The Salt River Siphon was a fundamental component of this system, spanning 8,700 feet long and constructed by a 21-foot-diameter steel pipe. As the primary contractor, Achen-Gardner began the repairs by draining the siphon of nearly 25 million gallons of water. These were the most detailed assessment and coating repairs ever performed on a Central Arizona Project steel siphon. At the end of 2019, the crew completed the impressive repairs, two days ahead of schedule.
