Project Overview

Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) was selected by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to deliver the MoDOT Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle Design-Build project: a major infrastructure initiative aimed at rehabilitating 20 aging bridges across seven counties in southwest Missouri. Counties receiving bridge updates include:

Bates
Benton
Cedar
Henry
Hickory
St. Clair
Vernon

As a key member of the design-build team, Bartlett and West will provide detailed structural plans and engineering support throughout the design and construction phases. This integrated approach supports real-time decision-making, streamlines communication, and aligns design and construction efforts to meet project goals efficiently and effectively.

This project targets a collection of rural, two-lane bridges that have served the state for an average of 70 years, with one even reaching the 100-year mark in 2021. ESS crews will replace and repair more than 100,000 square feet of existing bridge deck to deliver 12 complete bridge replacements, four deck replacements, and two superstructure replacements. Once restored to their original alignment and grading, the structures will safely support commuters for decades to come.

Two bridges will be eliminated from the MoDOT system. Crews will transform one into a box culvert and replace the other with twin 48-inch culvert pipes. These upgrades will save countless resources as long-term maintenance needs are reduced.

With a $38M MoDOT programmed budget, the scale of this work requires significant manpower and coordination from the project team. ESS will simultaneously manage up to five active rehabilitations to ensure the timely delivery of each structure, while maintaining quality standards. Safety measures, including temporary road closures and site-specific trainings, will be enacted to benefit the community and project crews. ESS will also work closely with local stakeholders to minimize disruption throughout operations.

Upon completion in late 2027, the MoDOT Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle Design-Build will deliver 20 rehabilitated bridges to southwest Missouri. ESS is grateful for the opportunity to advance the safety and longevity of Missouri’s infrastructure.
