Project Overview
Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) was awarded the $4.7 million Dixieland Road Extension project by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) to extend and smooth the existing roadway in Lowell’s southern district. This project now allows traffic to easily merge onto the increasingly busy interstate while extending the life of the previous pavement. The project scope included clearing and grubbing, grading, asphalt and concrete paving, utilities, minor drainage structures, box culverts, lighting, and pavement markings.
Crews constructed two lanes complete with a center turn lane and sidewalks in each direction. A new roundabout was also installed at the intersection of Dixieland and J.B. Hunt Corporate Drive in Lowell. This work provides greater accessibility to motorists who can now travel from north of Arkansas Highway 102 to Apple Blossom Road. It also included a pedestrian tunnel to allow J.B. Hunt Staff to cross Dixieland Road without interfering with the four way traffic stop and lights. The roundabout was designed with six pedestrian crosswalks and one pedestrian trail connecting the tunnel to J.B. Hunt.
Completed in just thirteen months, this project was recognized for it’s outstanding work in 2021 by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Arkansas with an Eagle Excellence in Construction Award.
