Frequently Asked Questions

Want to know more about our environmental work?

  • What are wetland and stream credits and how are they used?

During the project planning process, an engineer will determine if any existing streams or wetlands will be impacted. If the development plan cannot be modified to offset those impacts, the Corps of Engineers allows developers to purchase wetland and stream credits from pre-approved banks. Through our affiliate company, ESS Green Infrastructure, we sell both wetland and stream credits.

  • Does ESS help navigate the environmental permitting process?

Yes! ESS has specialists in-house that are experts at navigating the often complicated environmental permitting process.

  • What’s the largest wetlands project ESS has worked on?

When constructing the South Lawrence Trafficway in Lawrence, Kansas, ESS had the privilege of providing environmental construction services for the Baker University Wetlands, a 927-acre natural habitat.

  • Where is the ESS Green Infrastructure bank located?

The bank is located just east of Kansas City and serves projects within the Northwest Missouri Blackwater/Laine Rivers EDU watershed boundaries.

  • Does ESS perform jurisdictional determinations?

ESS does not provide jurisdictional determinations. As a best practice, we leave that to your preferred consultant.
