Safety Stand-Downs 2024 - It takes all of us.

Crews across ess focus on living every second safely.

As we are in the dog days of summer, using safe practices on the jobsite becomes more important than ever. From July 8 to July 12, our teams hosted safety stand-downs as an opportunity to pause and recenter their focus on safety. These stand-downs are more than just a break from the heat; they are a commitment to putting our employee-owners first and taking ownership of our safety.

While safety is important all year long, the hot summer months present unique challenges on a jobsite. High temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, dehydration and other heat-related illnesses. Safety stand-downs provide an opportunity to address the risks head-on, ensuring everyone is well-prepared and equipped with best practices across our projects.

During the safety stand-downs, jobsites temporarily halted operations to focus on training. These discussions included a review of protocols, equipment checks and open conversations about safety best practices. Every employee-owner also received a t-shirt as a constant reminder of our commitment to safety.

At ESS, safety isn’t just the rules we have to follow because someone says to. It is ingrained in our culture. Safety is woven into our five core values: people, purpose, partnership, passion and performance.

  • People: Making sure our employee-owners get home safe is our number one priority.
  • Purpose: Whether it’s taking pride in what we do or providing for our families, we all have a reason to stay safe.
  • Partnership: We are accountable for our crew and project partners. We look out for each other to help prevent accidents.
  • Passion: Powered by employee ownership, we are driven to deliver best-in-class safety practices.
  • Performance: Safety affects how we deliver every project. Reducing incidents leads to delivering quality projects faster.

As employee-owners, our people are empowered to own their safety. That means making decisions that protect themselves and their fellow employee-owners. Our commitment to safety is rooted in the understanding that every employee-owner has a stake in their safety. This sense of ownership is what sets us apart. As we continue through the summer, our safety stand-downs remind us our crews can hold each other accountable because safety takes all of us.
