Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
Racing against time, Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) helped renovate the previously deteriorating 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway track by replacing the asphalt and increasing the banking angles across the corners. The pre-existing 15-degree banking system was fine-graded to a new variable banking system ranging from 17 degrees to 20 degrees in the corners to support two and three-line racing. The front stretch was re-graded to 10 degrees while the backstretch became 5.5 degrees. Lane Construction and ESS worked to build a 0.95-mile road course to support the arrival of the competitive GrandAm Sports Car Series, a first to Kansas Speedway. The intense project was completed in time before the start of the NASCAR season.
During this project, ESS hauled a total of 95,906 square yards of track, apron, and road millings, excavated and cut to grade 41,930 cubic yards of material, and placed 16,931 linear feet of storm underdrains. In close cooperation with Lane Construction, 65,281 square yards of asphalt were placed.
