Project OverviewDescripción del proyecto
The Kansas Expressway Expansion has been a construction feat forty years in the making. Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) worked with the Greene County Highway Department to see this project come off the drawing board and into the dirt. Stretching from Republic Road to Plainview Road, this extension alleviates congestion on the highly populated south side of Springfield, Missouri.
A joint effort between ESS' Springfield, Heavy Highway, and Asphalt operations kept this $15.8 million dollar project on schedule. With 20,000 cubic yards of tough rock to excavate, both blasting and breaking were required to get down to the planned elevations. In combination with 220,000 cubic yards of total grading and excavation, weather conditions challenged project teams to adjust and carefully coordinate timing to keep the project on schedule.
As with all projects, safety is at the forefront of ESS’ operations. On this project, public safety remained top of mind. This heavily-trafficked stretch of highway featured busy residential neighborhoods along the entire project corridor. To keep the project team and traveling public safe, ESS proactively communicated maintenance of traffic changes, directed traffic flow, and promoted work zone awareness.
This project was completed in 2024.
