Scott Blvd. Improvement ProjectMay 20, 2009 COLUMBIA, MO (May 15, 2009) The city of Columbia Public Works Department announces that Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. will begin work on the Scott Boulevard Phase 1 project from Rollins Road to Brookview Terrace. The project will consist of widening the street to four lanes plus a center median from Rollins Road to Brookview Terrace, which is approximately 10,000 feet in length. The project also includes utility line relocation, bicycle lanes, new sidewalks on both sides of the road and a pedestrian underpass just north of Chapel Hill Road. The total cost for this project is $16.1 million, which was identified as a 2005 ballot issue project. This project will result in temporary lane restrictions throughout much of the project, however, contractors will do their best to keep traffic disruption to a minimum. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use extreme caution when entering the work zone and to use an alternative route when possible. Once completed, the expansion of Scott Boulevard will significantly help with vehicular and pedestrian traffic to offer better connectivity in west Columbia and alleviate traffic congestion. The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off this road project on Friday, May 22, at 8:30 a.m. at the Daniel Boone Little League Field on Scott Boulevard. |
